Christmas is always a special time of the year for both us, and our guests staying in Fowey. The town’s secluded location on the banks of the estuary offers a welcome escape from the chaos of festive preparations, and with picturesque winter views, fantastic local eateries, and boutique shops, it’s a perfect spot for enjoying a relaxing Christmas getaway with friends or a loved one.
For a little holiday indulgence, explore Fowey’s impressive selection of locally-run restaurants, cafés and pubs. After a crisp winter walk, warm up in cosy coffee shop, Brown Sugar, or head to Havener’s on the water front for a festive tipple. Charming bistro, Sam’s, is a great location to enjoy feel-good food, and of course, our head chef, Richard Massey, will be serving delicious dishes in our restaurant.
The town is a great place to find last-minute presents as well, boasting a selection of independent shops, all selling a fantastic range of gifts. Boutique store, The Clementine, sells art, homeware, and jewellery, and has recently launched its own clothing line, whilst Middleton’s Fudge Shop offers a collection of tempting treats.
Fowey’s popular Christmas market is a must-visit for anyone in the town during the festive season, too. From 30th November to 2nd December, markets, all packed with fantastic gifts and tasty treats, can be found dotted around the narrow streets.
The market located on the Town Quay features a handpicked selection of artisan arts and crafts producers, whilst the suitably titled marquee, “A Bite of Cornwall”, showcases some of the region’s finest food and drink producers.
With music from local performers, a Christmas procession through the town’s winding roads, led by Fowey Town Band, and the Christmas lights switch-on, Fowey Christmas Market is the perfect place to kick off the Christmas season.
During the festive period, we offer a truly unique experience for guests staying with us at the Old Quay House. Our Christmas package includes three nights’ accommodation from Christmas Eve until 27 December. Champagne is served on arrival, followed by a mulled wine reception in the evening.
As well as a traditional three-course lunch and evening buffet, Christmas Day at the hotel features an added twist; our staff continue a hotel tradition of handing over the front door keys to guests, giving you a free rein until the following morning, when the hotel staff return to serve Boxing Day breakfast.
Left with an honesty box, we invite you to help yourselves to drinks from the bar, mix your own cocktails, and enjoy the hotel at your leisure.
We’re also offering a New Year’s Eve package for those escaping to Cornwall to see in 2019. The two-night stay includes Champagne in your room on arrival, breakfast each morning, and an evening meal, prepared and cooked by Richard Massey.
