What a fantastic summer we have had! Our terrace has been a real hot-spot over the summer months thanks to the wonderful weather, with plenty of al fresco breakfasts, lunches and dinners. In August we had our busiest ever Fowey Regatta, when the Red Arrows fly past was a particular highlight. We’re now looking forward to the autumn – particularly to tucking into some of the amazing seasonal produce on the menu – and we hope that you will be able to join us soon.
On a personal note, this will be my last newsletter, as I will be moving on shortly to pursue some freelance projects elsewhere in the hospitality industry. It has been wonderful meeting so many of you over the last few years and working with the team here.
Happy birthday to us!
Big news – on 26th September we will be celebrating the hotel’s 10th birthday! It’s hard to believe that it has been 10 years since Jane and Roy’s vision for the hotel became reality and we welcomed our first guests. Were you one of them? If so write and tell us?
Visiting us in the autumn
Autumn is one of the loveliest times to visit Cornwall and there is certainly plenty going on, with harvest festivals and events in Fowey in beyond. Our pick of the goings-on would be the Harvest celebrations at the Eden Project, there’s a Beer Festival on 5th October which is worth a visit, plus plenty of seasonal activities.

Thinking of coming to visit us in the next couple of months? Prices in November will start from only £135.00 per room per night
We know that those who have been to Fowey once, twice or even several times before, sometimes like to look beyond our restaurant and terrace for food and drinks. Cornwall certainly has plenty to shout about on that front and the latest star is Paul Ainsworth at Number 6 , over in Padstow, which has been awarded its first Michelin star in the 2013 guide. Definitely recommended!
Christmas at the Old Quay House
Now that the nights are starting to draw in, it is time to start thinking about plans for Christmas. As usual the Old Quay House will be a tinsel-free oasis for anyone looking to escape the trappings of the festive season. There is still some availability, but if you are hoping to join us, we suggest you get in touch soon to avoid missing out. A two night stay from 24th December will cost from £360 for two, including breakfast. A special Christmas lunch menu will be available for £60 per person.
The team continues to grow and one of our newest recruits is Candace, our front of house manager. Having swapped the bright lights of London last year for life by the sea, Candace joined us just before the summer rush and has certainly had a busy introduction to life at The Old Quay House. We caught up with her to find out more….[click here]
We are also delighted to welcome back Ben Bass as our head chef, following his year’s sabbatical. Ben is looking forward to cooking up some seasonal treats over the autumn and winter months.
